FOOTBALL HISTORY

Football at the College dates back to the early 1900’s

Despite the World War dragging on, St Charles’ boys had an enjoyable football season with their fair share of victories. The Senior Team won both the League and the knock-out competitions, and thus remained the custodians of the trophy for another year.

During the latter half of 1918, the Spanish “Flu”, spread death throughout the world, it was thought to be as many as 20 000 000 victims. It also visited Maritzburg, and at the suggestion of the College doctor, the day scholars were asked to stay away from school. All outside activities were suspended and there was, therefore, no sports meetings.
